Is Haribo Halal?

It dependsEvidence last checked July 3, 2026

The short answer

It depends on which Haribo you buy. Standard Haribo sold in the US, UK and Europe (Goldbears and most gummies) is set with pork gelatin, which the majority of scholars treat as haram. But Haribo makes a dedicated halal range — produced in Turkey with halal-certified beef gelatin — plus vegan lines with no gelatin at all. So Haribo is not one answer: read the gelatin source and look for the halal mark.

Why standard Haribo is not halal

Most Haribo made in Germany, the UK and the wider EU — including the famous Goldbears — uses pork-derived gelatin (E441). Pork and its derivatives are forbidden, and the majority of scholars do not accept the istihala (transformation) argument for pork gelatin, so standard Haribo is treated as not halal. (A minority istihala view exists — see our gelatin page — but the mainstream avoids it.)

The Haribo Halal range is real

Haribo produces a dedicated Halal line at its factory in Eskişehir, Turkey, using zabiha beef gelatin, certified halal. These packs are sold in Turkey and exported to halal markets and specialist shops — a genuinely certified product, not a relabel.

How to tell which you are holding

  • Halal pack: look for a halal certification mark, "Made in Turkey / Türkiye'de üretilmiştir," and "beef gelatine" / "sığır jelatin" in the ingredients.
  • Standard pack: ingredients say just "gelatine" (pork) — and it is made in Germany, the UK or elsewhere in the EU.
  • Vegan pack: labelled vegan, no gelatin — halal by default.
  • Do not assume the bag in a UK or US shop is the halal version — it is almost always the pork-gelatin standard unless the halal mark is present.

Common questions

Does standard Haribo contain pork?

Yes — most Haribo sold in the US, UK and EU uses pork-derived gelatin.

Is there a halal Haribo?

Yes — Haribo's Turkey-made Halal range uses certified beef gelatin, and the vegan lines have no gelatin.

How do I know if my Haribo is halal?

Look for a halal mark, "Made in Turkey," and "beef gelatine" on the pack. Plain "gelatine" means pork.

Is Haribo halal in the UK?

The standard UK Haribo is pork-gelatin and not halal; you would need the imported Turkish Halal range or a vegan line.

The bottom line

Haribo is halal only in its certified Turkish range (beef gelatin) and its vegan lines — standard US/UK/EU Haribo is pork gelatin and not halal. Check for the halal mark, "Made in Turkey," and "beef gelatine" before you trust the bag.
