How we verify
- Certified — a certificate from a recognized certifying body is on file and has been checked.
- Owner-verified — the owner or staff confirmed the halal status directly, usually by phone.
- Community-reported — what community members told us, clearly labelled as not independently verified.
Questions
- How do you verify a restaurant is halal?
- We combine recognized halal certificates, direct phone calls and in-person visits, owner verification forms, and trusted community input into a halal tier shown on every listing. See our verification methodology.
- What do the verification tiers mean?
- Certified means a certificate from a recognized body is on file and verified. Owner-verified means the owner or staff confirmed it directly. Community-reported reflects what community members told us, without independent verification. Every listing shows which one applies and when it was last checked.
- How often do you re-check?
- Verification freshness is shown on every listing. Certified and owner-verified listings are reviewed roughly every 90 days, others less frequently. Listings older than six months show a staleness warning.
- Do you issue halal rulings?
- No. We are not an Islamic authority and we do not issue rulings. We present the evidence and the date we last checked so you can decide for yourself, and we always recommend verifying directly before visiting.
- Why isn't my area listed?
- We list an area once we have verified, published restaurants there. Areas we are still researching may show only a few places, or none yet — they appear as soon as there is evidence to show.
- How do I report something incorrect?
- Use the Report Issue button on any restaurant page, or the report form. Reports create evidence for review — they never change a listing automatically.
