Sonic is not halal at the vast majority of its locations. Its beef and chicken are not slaughtered the zabiha way, it serves bacon, and it has no company-wide certification. We mark it "varies by location" because a few Sonic restaurants in areas with large Muslim communities, such as Dearborn, Michigan, have started offering halal meat. Sonic is a US drive-in chain, so any halal option is a local owner's choice. Check with the specific restaurant.

The short answer
Most Sonic locations are not halal. The beef and chicken come from ordinary suppliers, bacon is on the menu, and there is no company-wide certification. A few Sonic restaurants have started offering halal meat.
Is Sonic halal in the United States?
At most locations, no. Sonic's beef and chicken come from ordinary suppliers, and they are not slaughtered the Islamic way. Sonic also serves bacon. So the standard menu is not halal.
Which Sonic locations serve halal meat?
In some areas with large Muslim communities, especially Dearborn, Michigan, individual Sonic restaurants have started serving halal meat. This is a decision by the local owner, not company policy. A halal Sonic in one area tells you nothing about a Sonic in another area, so confirm with the specific restaurant.
