What makes a protein powder halal or not?

Three things decide it, and none of them are visible on a plain ingredient list.

The whey and its enzyme source. Whey is a by-product of cheese making, so it has the same question as cheese. It is halal if the cheese was made with microbial rennet. • For protein bars and capsules, check specifically for gelatin.
